I spent 2 or 3 weeks in February shooting beautiful Refugio State Beach. Today (May 19, 2015), 105,000 gallons of oil from a broken pipeline spilled onto this gorgeous shoreline. The reports indicate an oil spill covering the beach for 4 miles and out into the ocean for 50-100 yards. The pipe broke just the other side of Highway 101 and ran through a storm drain that spills out onto the beach. Interestingly enough, this was also the site of a 1969 oil spill that was considered the worst ever in the United States until the 1989 Exxon disaster in Alaska occurred. Cañada Del Corral Beach.
